Where it started
Modern Design Platform did not begin as an abstract business idea. It began inside a real project.
Tres Marías was the first expression of what would later become MDP’s discovery-to-delivery model, before it had a formal name. A 40,000-square-foot private family residence built on a Jack Nicklaus golf course, it brought together architects Sergio Magaña and Sonia Mejia, the design team, the owner, internationally recognized designers, and leading Italian luxury brands.
On the surface, it was an ambitious architectural and interior statement.
But the real lesson was not aesthetic. It was operational.
Through that project, Neil Somerfield experienced first-hand the structural challenges that continue to define the industry: fragmented discovery, inconsistent specification, disjointed procurement, reactive logistics, and too much distance between design intent and physical execution.
From foundations to final installation, his role was not simply to source products or coordinate suppliers. It was to create the execution layer between design intent and physical reality: managing curated sourcing across Italian manufacturers, refining specifications, overseeing customization with factories, coordinating procurement, organizing warehousing, and driving delivery and installation through completion.
The architect and design team designed.
The owner envisioned.
The brands manufactured.
What made the project work was the infrastructure in between.
Tres Marías proved something fundamental: projects of this kind do not break down because of a lack of vision. They break down because discovery, specification, procurement, and logistics are too often disconnected.
What was built manually on that project became the basis for a larger thesis:

● standardized product data instead of PDF chaos
● coordinated procurement instead of brand-by-brand silos
● integrated logistics instead of reactive freight management
Tres Marías was more than an early success. It was proof that an infrastructure layer changes outcomes.
How MDP developed
Modern Design Platform was created to codify that operating logic into a scalable model.
What began as project-level execution experience evolved into a broader view of the market.
